Snab & Sturd are a tragic duo who are both suckered into the rebel plan, due to the fact that they weren’t doing anything useful with their existence when that rot began to be peddled.
Their fault is ignorance and neglect that fosters stupidity, rather than pure evil, however they suffer sorely for this, nonetheless, once their fellows in the movement accelerate in their decline.
Ultimately, the idiots fall victim to the training of Lucifer’s army and the very narrow portion of wits that they share are minimised to such a degree that they are permanently retarted in their spiritual, mental and emotional development. In the midst of the rebel movement is not where one with a retardation is want to find themself, and immediately they become the butt of more jokes than ever.
Although tricked into voting for Lucifer in the final vote of the first novel, they are not offered mercy by their parents as, had they been whole, they would have been so stupid as to have voted for Lucifer anyway – and would have assumed as prominant a role as they could in the rebellion.
Their tale is a cautionary one. While those who suffer with a mental or emotional retardation in mortality, that is not of their own making, may well expect to be fully compensated in the eternities, those who suffer a self-imposed spiritual retardation, due to an unwillingness to apply themself to that which is of worth, are likely to be offered no such compensating mercy.
Such is the spiritual retardation of Snab & Sturd that they play no meaningful role in any of the future books, but this makes them no less cursed than any who choose to follow Lucifer. Even though some do manage to retain a temporary place in the limelight this is likely to prove fleeting as Lucifer does not like to share.
