Madeleine and Jerome are a tragic couple that find themselves on opposite sides of the final outcome in Premortal.

Madeleine is a drama teacher and a drama queen and even the rebel cause remains secondary to her great love of drama.  Once she finds that she has been deceived by Jezebel and her followers, she disassociates herself with Lucifer’s cause and commands Jerome to do the same.  Unfortunately, Jerome is more attracted to Lucifer’s message and the sure path it seems to offer through mortality.  Unbeknown to Madeleine, he periodically sneaks off to attend the rebel meetings.  This state of affairs sees Madeleine and Jerome making the opposite decision when the final vote takes places and, consequently, they find themselves on opposite sides when the battle lines are drawn.

Jerome suffers the consequences of his poor decision and must endure the same fait as all of Lucifer’s followers.  There are implications also for Madeleine.  Although she chose the right plan, she did so for entirely the wrong reasons.

Madeleine is born in the ‘last days’ and therefore features in the fourth book in the series.  Though she hates Jezebel, she fails to perceive that the evils that she performs on earth are largely inspired by that despicable female.

Though Jerome once loved Madeleine, once he is cast out, any power to feel positive emotions for another soul diminishes until he too rejoices in Madeleine’s wickedness, and all of the associated carnage.
