Premortal by Damien Passmore

Anas

In the first book, even before his association with Lucifer’s cause, Anas is as small in soul as he is in stature. Consequently, he doesn’t take much persuading and is one of only a handful of spirits to attend the first rebel meeting.

Having been in such a poor state before paying allegiance to Lucifer, one can only imagine the soul he becomes under his tutelage. Anas becomes a saddest of the grandest order and there is no deed too dirty, no depth too low, no length that he will not go to, in his quest for power. In the rebel movement Anas finds the perfect breading ground for all of his faults, and he is rewarded for his eagerness to do evil.

Generals Anas and Sillick are friends, of sorts, and in the first novel they almost behave that way. In the future novels, however, they ultimately deduce that they are both competing for the same role as leader of Lucifer’s army. Accordingly, the friendship gives way to a frosty association that only disintegrates further as each novel progresses.

As a rebel spirit, Anas features in all books of the series, however this notoriety should not be taken to be a positive for Anas, as his future progresses steadily to exactly the point that it should.

At just over ten thousand years old, Anas is not without experience. His positive qualities, however, are extremely immature, and ultimately non-existent. On the other hand, his character deficiencies continue to mature beautifully until he is a devil complete in every vice imaginable, and capable of any evil.
