In the first novel Ethan is a demonstration that it is never too late to change, but his experiences also demonstrate that keeping the wrong company can be potentially fatal and he only just escapes a terrible fait.

Once located amongst better company, and with a true desire to change, Ethan starts to take back territory lost in regards to the progress of his soul – and a dilligent preparation for mortality begins.

Notwithstanding his diligent progress, once he had changed course, an early entry onto the mortal stage would have proved a test too hard for Ethan to endure such that he is given the maximum amount of time to prepare for the mortal sojourn.  Accordingly, Ethan is held back to the closing act of mortality and features prominantly in the fifth and final book of the series.

Ethan’s best qualities are his humility, tenacity and a willingness to work hard in order to make a change for the better.
